Knowledge intensive businesses now account for 41% of employment in Britain and 33% of employment across all of the EU. In knowledge businesses value is not created or delivered based on the old industrial model of a linear value chain but in the interaction between individual or teams of employees, the tools and processes of the organisation and its customers. These interactions become more complex to understand as the organisation is increasingly functioning in a web of relationships where intangible exchanges contribute as much if not more value than traditional tangible ones. Seeing the organisation in this form, be it a private enterprise or a public service is introducing a new way of thinking about how work is carried out. Ensuring that their strategy meets the needs of all the stakeholders in a diverse mix of relationships will challenge business leaders to respond by adapting their behaviour in ways that may not have been necessary before.

KnowledgeStart™ is a seminar that has been designed to help business leaders gain insight and understanding of the factors that will affect them as their business becomes more knowledge intensive. The seminar uses a highly interactive approach to simulate the knowledge economy involving case studies and group exercises to generate discussion and decision making. Participants will be guided through a process that will help them to discover more about their knowledge issues using a framework developed by Dr Karl-Erik Sveiby.

KnowledgeStart™ can be particularly beneficial where a leadership team needs help to develop a more collaborative way of working. The methodology is designed to break down traditional defences and enable participants to gain consensus prior to initiating action. During the seminar teams are challenged to agree answers to questions:
  • How are we doing now in adopting a knowledge focussed approach?
  • What are the issues that will most affect our future?
  • What areas do we need to address now?
  • What will success look like?
  • What knowledge solutions are already in place?
Working in a team allows participants to share their ideas and concerns and to find relevant answers to the questions that confront their own organisation. The seminar can work equally effectively with multiple teams where the sharing of ideas can be a powerful way building a broader consensus about the priorities on which to base action that will be more focused and add greater value by delivering a better return on investment.

Let KnowledgeStart™ help transform the way your business performs in the knowledge economy.
