The unique HoloMapping™ method, designed and developed by Verna Allee, is a powerful tool for systems mapping of organizational activities. It captures both context and processes and is an ideal approach to understanding interdependent business processes, with the added benefit of attributing and assessing 'value'. When activities are sequenced and arranged as tables, a rich variety of analysis is made possible.

Unlike linear methods, such as workflow diagrams and flow charts, the HoloMapping™ method describes activities in a systemic way that captures much more information and reveals whole system patterns and dynamics.

Data/Information capture is facilitated by accredited Allee Associates who also lead on the 'exploration' and decision-making sessions that follow. Following initial sessions Associates can support "Train the Trainer" activities that could see facilitation transferred into the organisation, via established accreditation processes.

What Does it Do?
The HoloMapping™ technique maps all the key stakeholders and participants who are concerned with a particular business or business area - it creates a 'visual map'.

These maps serve as learning devices to facilitate discussion, generating insights, making explicit the mental models of the participants, and deepening strategic dialogue around particular questions. They can be created using facilitation and simple materials such as sticky notes, coloured markers, and flipcharts or a large whiteboard.

The HoloMapping™ method also serves as a foundation for methods such as the ValueNet Works™ Analysis. They can be generated using the ValueKNET™ interactive tool or the ValueNet Works™ software.

HoloMapping™ Foundations
HoloMapping™ borrows from a number of different methodologies including object-oriented data analysis, causal loop diagramming, system dynamics, and interrelationship diagrams - yet it is different from all of them.

Thus HoloMapping™ has familiar elements, but uses these elements in a completely unique way to reveal both whole system dynamics and processes details - in one simple and fast method; using HoloMapping accelerates the 'understanding' phase of a proposed change initiative.

How is it Used?
Facilitated by our trained and experienced Advisors, the Holomapping™ approach and tools can be used as part of wider analysis and investigation before major change programmes are determined and implemented. The mapping process helps users discover together where real value is being generated in the organisation. By focusing not only the 'tangibles' but also the 'intangibles' in the organisation's value-systems, the outputs from HoloMapping™ uniquely inform future organisational actions and changes that can be incorporated into overall strategic direction, modified organisational design and detailed change programmes.
