From the start I've worked in the area of information management. Though I have a technical background I have specialised in the user experience so I have worked extensively on usability and user interface issues and also on the user culture. I am particularly strong in bridging the gap between people and technology.
In the past few years I have focused primarily on knowledge and learning elements in my work - specifically helping clients with knowledge management and learning initiatives (including work with both KM systems and e-learning environments). I am a proponent of a strategic approach to the management of information, knowledge and learning though in all cases I seek to achieve a balance between the people and technology elements.

Key Focus Areas
Knowledge Management
I work with clients on developing and evaluating knowledge focused strategies. I balance people-centric KM with systems-centric KM and am particularly active in helping clients to get the most from KM systems by focusing on the people-technology interface. I also help clients evaluate KM systems and tools, and select those that best match their KM strategy. I also use experiential learning tools such as Apples and Oranges and Tango to develop improved understanding of both tactical and strategic knowledge issues within organisations.
Intellectual Capital and Intangible Assets Management
For me knowledge management goes way beyond the simple sharing of explicit or tacit knowledge. The work done by Karl-Erik Sveiby, Leif Edvinnson and others on knowledge focused strategies provides a useful model for leveraging intellectual and intangible assets, and crucially, tapping into the tremendous pool of human capital that powers our 21st century knowledge economy. If you haven't looked at your organisation through the intellectual capital or intangibles lens you're missing a substantial opportunity to transform your business.
Learning and e-Learning
I work with clients to help develop new approaches to learning and specifically the effective use of technology to support learning. From blended learning programmes through to virtual classrooms I am an advocate of greater use of technology to support learning both at the individual and organisational level. In addition to working with clients on pure e-learning strategies, I also seek to link knowledge management and learning initiatives to create a joined-up approach to knowledge and learning.
Collaboration and Virtual Working
I work with clients to develop better collaboration strategies and help them evaluate, implement and use tools that support their collaborative culture. Integrating technology solutions with effective approaches to people and internal processes I help clients get the most from new collaborative working environments.
